Woo. Tommorow is the Fourth of July. Time to wave some little flags, profess undying love for the country, and forget about it the next day.

Or at least, that's what most other people are gonna do. Becasue that's what you're "supposed" to do. You only have to "love" the country one day out of the year, so you'd better do it BIG... Feh.

Just once, (Okay, all the time, really, but I do try to make my wishes attainamble...), I'd like to see someone with the same kind of enthusiasm towards the country on some other day. And to not exhibit it through some inane joviality, but by trying to help the great afflited thing that desperately needs some real love and care.

People treat the country like the mother they sent to a nursing home because they considered her a burden. Sure, you "love" her when asked, but do you ever do anything to show that? That's what I thought.

The country, of course, is by no means dying, but it sure isn't healthy. We're still suffering many of the problems we were a hundred years ago. Prejudice. Poverty. Squalid living in the heart of prosperous cities. Overcrowding. Massively growing industry with no checks and shady practices. Crime. Political corruption. And on top of those, drugs and alcohol have gone from casual, though somewhat often excessive, use by adults 99% of the time that was just something to loosen you inhibitions enough to be comfortable around other socialites ('cause really, you'd have to be drunk to put up with some of the people in high society then...) to rampant, life-driving use, now focused more on drugs than drinking and widely available to youth.

But now, those who act for reform are considered to be "conservative" or "liberal" despite the oddly similar base reason for their actions (Making things better, as they should be.) Back then, reform was the driving political movement. Now, there isn't really any major drive. There's some focus on the economy, which gets more attention than it needs, really. It's easier to stabilize it when announcements of plans are enough to change the state of it, I would think. And why, exactly, was the military strenghth such an issure before "Dubya" was even running for the presidency? As far as I know, we were at peace. And, of course, getting the presidency is accomplished thorugh adopting positions that make you popular, not adopting positions that will most definitely help the country where it needs help...

And, getting back on topic... If everybody loves this country so much, why do they hate so many of it's inhabitants? How do you love "America" (Which isn't even a country, it's a hemisphere...) if you don't love the Americans? It makes absolutely no sense. So tomorrow, I celebrate not my love for this country, because I don't have enough to celebrate. I certainly don't hate it, but I can't love a country that breeds such hypocracy.

I will, however, take place in the festivites that I can, because, well... they're festive.

...And things go boom and get shiny.
